Over My Head

Bethel Music has a song titled Over My Head that is one of my worship staples. Here is a YouTube link to the song: https://youtu.be/6mAvt3CxEQM. This song talks about a willingness to let God completely cover you in His Spirit and Glory. I think of it is marinating. When you marinate meat, prior to barbecuing, you let it sit in the sauce for hours and sometimes even overnight.

I think that this is where Jesus got all His power. Remember that although Jesus was fully God, he laid down His God attributes in order to live life as a man. He even said that He did nothing, but what He saw the Father do and said nothing, but what He heard the Father say. That’s how we have to live this Christian life, so Jesus was our great example.

In Luke 6:12, we see Jesus praying all night:

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.”

I believe He was marinating in the Spirit all night. Although the scriptures only show this a couple of times, I believe that Jesus did this often. He had a big mission and that required some serious marinating. As a man, He was in over his head, but once He marinated in the Spirit, He was ready to face the tasks at hand – turning water into wine, walking on water, healing, delivering, discerning, and raising people from the dead.

It’s easy to say that Jesus did all He did, because He was God and He was God, but He didn’t do all the miracles as God. It was the Spirit working through Him. We can be assured of this, because in John 14:12, Jesus said, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” He expects all who believe in Him, all the true disciples, to do what He did and even greater! Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m not God and yet Jesus still expects me to do greater than what He did.

In my humanness, this is not possible. If I attempt this, I’m truly over my head, but if I allow God to cover me with His Glory and Spirit, to be marinated, then I can do these things and so can you!

So, set aside some time and ask God to cover you with His Glory and Spirit, then just marinate for a while and you will walk in greater revelation of the Word, receive Words of knowledge for people, prophecy, speak in tongues, and signs and wonders will follow you everywhere you go!
